Addiction: from Neuroscience to Novel Treatments

  • XLG2 LT, Christopher Ingold Building, UCL London WC1H 0AJ England (map)

We're incredibly excited to welcome back Professor David Nutt, President of the European Brain Council and Edmond J. Safra, Professor of Neuropsychopharmacology at Imperial College London, to share their expertise on the neurobiology of drug addiction.

Widely known as the scientist who was sacked from the UK's Advisory Council on the Misuse of Drugs, for saying that taking ecstasy is safer than horse-riding, Professor Nutt is a renowned psychopharmacologist who has led many initiatives to study drug addiction and revise drug policy. From his clinical leadership in the National Institutes of Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism, to his recent studies on the clinical benefits of LSD and psilocybin, and his renowned criticism of the dopamine theory of addiction, Professor Nutt has spent his career challenging dogma and advancing the discipline of psychiatry.
