For the past decade, the consumption of smart drugs has skyrocketed, as individuals seek to gain an edge in our increasingly competitive society. Advocates of their use often claim that they "unlock your brain" and expand your capabilities to new horizons, while others remain highly skeptical of their benefits. Though effective for their original clinical purposes against attention-deficit disorder and dementia, nootropics, or cognitive enhancers, elicit wide debate amongst scientists and legislators alike. Do we really know how they work? Are there any side-effects in healthy individuals? Should they become a part of our daily lives?
We have invited 3 experts in the field, who will tackle the neuroscientific and ethical standpoints of these drugs. They will be followed by a Q&A panel in which you as the audience can engage and discuss this controversial tropic with our invited speakers. So take a break, before your end-of-term exams and dissertations, for our final event of the year.
This event will be free for members and £3 for non-members. Tickets will be released nearer to the event. Anyone is welcome including individuals external to UCL. We look forward to seeing you soon!
