Research Evenings with NeuroSoc

  • Maths 500, 25 Gordon St, UCL WC1H 0AY England (map)

The UCL Neuroscience Society is happy to announce the first of our biweekly research seminars for the term! We will be joined by recent UCL alumna, Helen Langley and UCL Professor of Neurology, Dimitri Kullmann.

Helen Langley graduated top of her class on the Neuroscience MSci programme last year, and is currently undertaking a Wellcome Trust Neuroscience PhD programme at UCL. She will be opening this seminar with a presentation of her final-year project on structure-function electrophysiology of AMPA receptors, which she carried out in the lab of Professor Stuart Cull-Candy. In addition to covering a fascinating field of study, her presentation is a prime example to follow for any senior undergraduate or Masters students thinking about their final year project.

Professor Dimitri Kullmann will be joining us to present on experimental gene therapies for epilepsy, with a focus on channelopathies. Based at the Institute of Neurology, Professor Kullmann studies how phenomena at the cellular (and synaptic) level interact to regulate excitability of small neural circuits, especially in epilepsy and in other neurological disorders, using methods from molecular genetics to computational simulations.

These sessions will probably be most useful for senior undergraduate and Masters-level students, but of course anyone is welcome to attend. Snacks and drinks will be provided.
